What is Phala Network?

As of 02/01/2021 there are now over 1300 privacy nodes, all with TEE:

What does Phala offer?

1, Confidential computing resources- CPU time, on-chain storage, network bandwidth, off-chain storage and more resources.

2, Native token for confidential contracts- Phala provides a wide-ranged infrastructure including cross-chain confidential widgets and a trustless general-purpose computing platform. All these features are accessible with PHA.

3, Security guarantee- To be a Gatekeeper one must stake a certain amount of PHA. The stake would be fined and took if one betrayed Gatekeeper rules.

4, Governance- Stakeholders who owns a certain amount of PHA would be able to join Phala DAO to further participate in community governance.

5, Other payments- Settlements for other services or products such as Web3 Analytics and cross chain bridges for permissionless chains.

Confidential contract

1, Confidentiality- Unlike the existing blockchains for smart contracts, Phala Network avoids the leakage of any input, output or intermediate state of confidential contract. Only authorized queries to the contract will be answered.

2, Code integrity- Anyone can verify that an output is produced by a specific smart contract published on the blockchain.

3, State consistency- Anyone can verify that an execution happened at a certain blockchain height which implies the output of the execution is subject to a certain chain state.

4, Availability-There must not be a single point of failure such as disconnection of the miner.

5, Interoperability- Contracts can interoperate with each other and external blockchains.

The Protocol

There are a few roles involved in the protocol as shown in the diagram above:

Users- Users invoke, query and deploy smart contracts.

Worker Nodes- Worker Nodes run confidential contracts in TEE-compatible hardwares.

1, Genesis Node- Genesis Node helps bootstrap the network and set up the cryptographic configuration. There’s only one Genesis Node and it’s destroyed after the launch of Phala Network.

2, Gatekeepers- Gatekeepers manage the secrets to ensure the availability and security of the network.

3, Miners- Miners execute the confidential contracts.

Remote Attestation Service- Remote Attestation Service is a public service to validate if a Worker Node has deployed pRuntime correctly.

Blockchain- Blockchain is the backbone of Phala Network.
